Seminars come to Jekyll Island Presbyterian Church
The Jekyll Presbyterian Church invites everyone to their annual Winter Seminar series. The theme “Southern Charm” will be played out as three exciting guest speakers bring a variety of southern talent to Jekyll on three Wednesdays in February. Everyone is welcome to attend any or all seminars in the Mission Parlor, from 10:00am - 11:30am. Refreshments will follow each presentation. Admission is free. CDs will be available for sale. Feb 6 - Betty Ann Wylie - A founding member of The Southern Order of Storytellers, “tells tales to send chills down your spine…She is mesmerizing and beguiling with the dramatic gestures and voice changes of a born actress,” says Celestine Sibley of The Atlanta Constitution. Her latest CD, Pass It On - A Storyteller’s Journey, includes one of her creations that is a favorite with adults in particular, the spoonerism, Wone With the Gind. Feb 13 - Tim Thomas, Executive Chef of the Ocean Forest Golf Club at Sea Island - Tim is a winner of the Great American Seafood Cookoff in New Orleans, winner of the first Jekyll Island Shrimp and Grits Festival, and team leader for the presidential cooking team for the 2004 G8 Summit. He went to culinary school in Asheville, NC, has worked at The Cloister, and has cooked at the White House. Feb 20 - Tony Baker - Tony is a folksinger/ songwriter who has performed privately for President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter and has performed with Jimmy Buffett in Key West. He performed at Underground Atlanta, Estes Park, and Santa Fe. He has been a principal performer at the Sea Island Golf Club and the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. He performed one of his original songs, Bubbas and Bozos, on national TV from Opryland Studios. His newest CD is entitled St. Simons Song.
