wow, what we look forward to the most is the slow pace!! My favs are shrimp at the Rah Bar, visiting the shops in the village (love the IGA!), walking on the south beach, reading the day away in a beach chair, and the fifth is my husbands choice - fishing! :) We have been going to Jekyll for many years and I love the fact that we can pack the car at the last minute and always know what we are going to find when we get there! :) I do hope that will remain the same for the most part!

We have been going for many years and have our traditions that we must do each visit: Bike riding is our top favorite…all over the island!, Summer waves, Ice cream at the Sweet/Fudge shop near Jekyll Club, the Playground (and in the past few years, getting a pizza at Red Bug pizza while there) and minuture golf! There are so many things we LOVE to do there but those are our top five…well and of course the beach!! I can’t wait to go back in May!!!

Our family loves to just walk around the historic area; shop at all the shops; eat at the Crane (when its not booked to the hilt!); wandering through the historic areas and trying to discover neat little areas I haven’t seen before; and lastly, the peace and quiet and beauty of the area.

Been to Jekyll Island twice now from England and we love it, its a beautiful place. We especially love going round the historial area and imagining how it must have been when all the cottages were lived in. Jekyll is a little bit of unspoilt paradise. Its amazing that more people dont know about it but maybe thats part of the appeal ….

Interesting Jekyll Island Geocaching Post

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Log Date: 10/22/2009

Nice hide and thanks to log by mwillefl I knew the coords were about 40′ off and that helped when looking.   I took new coords and they are N 31° 06.082 W 081° 24.854.  My GPS showed 43′ difference and I am adding a waypoint (above) to this log for my coords.  NIce ‘tool box’, not what I expected - smaller and more hi-tech.  TFTC!

Geocaching is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy Jekyll Island! This log post is from a geocache that Jekyll Island Marketing placed, and there are many more! Visit www.geocaching.com for a list of coordinates of the hidden treasures on the island or anywhere you visit.

Really Cool Geocache Log at Circle of Oaks Cache

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

September 27 by FHall9600 (24 found)
Javonne and I placed “Bobblehead Paul” bobblehead doll in the cache after cleaning and drying out the cache box. This doll was found by us in St. Anthony, Newfoundland last month and carried to the Jekyll Island to be found and moved on. The cache is being tracked by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s “Shift” show on radio broadcast by Paul Castle, the host of “Shift”. The finder needs to contact Paul when he/she finds and moves it. My radio interview on this find can be heard at: www.cbc.ca/shift/interviews. The interview was done on September 8, 2009. Please help Paul find a great new location. Bill Hall (fhall9600)

 December 31, 2008
I was with the family and didn’t find it either. I’m glad I didn’t find the spiders either! Have to try again next time!
 December 31, 2008
Out with the family, and none of us could find this one. Looked everywhere we could called it short to go to the other end of the island before sunset. I have to return to California, but hopefully the family will find this one on the next visit. But t was a great area, wished I could of had a history lesson….
 December 29, 2008
Sidekick and I used GPS readings not under the trees to zero-in on this one, Good hide TNLN SL TFTH
 December 26, 2008
We left a pink jewel in the cache when we found it. The find was the perfect level of “trickiness” for our group. Thanks!

Picnic Area is bit tricky…

Cache Logs
 January 9
beat the bushes and didn’t see it.
 January 6
[My family and I looked for a while with no luck...It would help if I had an idea of what kind of container I was looking for.]
[Update from the cache owner:]
The container is a small black waterproof (if people close it right) about 8 x 6 and about 2 inches tall

View of the Pier from the Beach
My Son near the Cache
 January 3
No luck here. Looked around for about 20 minutes and could not find it before the gnats decided to devour us. Great spot again on this beautiful island.
 January 1
The new coordinates are better than the old by about 50 ft. Once you find it you wonder why it was so hard. Our first find of 2009. Took nothing, left a nickel.
“Happy New Year”
 December 31, 2008
a great find on this wonderful island!!!! Left a flamingo key chain….

We’ll check on all the caches ASAP, so all you geocachers out there, make plans to come to Jekyll Island on January 31st for the Geocaching for Island Treasures event.  If you don’t know what Island Treasures are, go to www.jekyllisland.com/islandtreasures!

Knobhiker found Super Nature Trail

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Log Date: 10/19/2008
This is the best of caching - being taken to a fantastic spot you would never have known about. Thanks to larissaharris for this and the other Island sponsored caches. The stream and pond offered many great photo shots. No alligators, but good that one didn’t sneak up on me while I did the camera thing!

The coord.s were spot on, the hide and contents in good shape. Took: plastic horse (to remember seeing wild horses on Cumberland Island). Left: personal coin and cards. TFTH!!!

Knobhiker found Circle of Oaks (Traditional Cache)

Log Date: 10/19/2008
Wonderful location! The coordinates were spot on and the cache was in good shape. Took: only the fun of caching. Left: signature coin and cards, bandanna.

Frog & Turtle Found Picnic Area

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Log Date: 10/9/2008

This one was a lot easier than we made it–after tromping through a forest of palmetto spears and giving up, we checked one last spot, far from where the GPSer was taking us, and voila! T geocoin/L frog. Pretty spot–thanks.
